Mac virus or similar problems

by steve_oneill - 10/18/08 1:50 AM

I've just purchased a MacBook Pro and wondering if I should protect myself against viruses etc? If so, what should I use?

I've yet again recently had to format my laptop PC hardrive after a virus attack, and I'm hoping all this will now be a thing of the past.

First there would have to be a virus.

Then we could have an antivirus. The issues that exist on Windows thankfully are not here. HOWEVER there is software that is like a trojan that you must install for it to work. But why would you install such a thing?

Here's the link about that -> http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/11/01/1855259&from=rss

That's about all there is but no antivirus can stop such things because the user is allowed to install anything they want.

ClamXAV is a good, open source, free, regularly updated application for OS X.

It detects Windows viruses that you may receive from others less fortunate than yourself and that you might, inadvertently of course, forward on to others just like them.
