I get boxes with red x in them where pictures belong.
Why?
You're using Internet Explorer and it's probably become infested with spyware. Seems to be the cause of 75% or better of all IE problems on this forum lately.
Do yourself a favor. Download a copy of Mozilla Firefox once you clean your system up. Forget about IE.
I get the red x's all the time now. Even when I use Moxilla firefox. It started about a week ago with just a few sites, now it is all of them. I do have show pictures clicked. Went to the help site offered in the next help message, and tried all those suggestions. Still all red x's even on this site. I have windows xp pro and ie 6 and the newest firefox. Sometimes there is an option at the top of the page to show pictures and when I click this, I do see the images and not the red x's. But most of the time, that option is not there.
This is a problem, esp. when shopping on the internet and cannot see the product advertised. Or when people email me something with an image, I can't see it.
I have not dl'd the security update for windows.
I just checked and dagnabit, windows auto update did install the new security update package2, even tho I didn't have auto update enabled. I wonder if that is the problem?
Just something I came accross when checking my firewall the privicy settings had checked disable web bugs. When I unchecked the red x's went away.
These pics might be part of collecting info for advertizing.
Intersting Thought, Any others...
No SP2 is not the problem. I run XP home with SP2 installed and have no problem.
Your problem is a setting on your security software, either a firewall or a program like a popup stopper.'check all your security programs and you'll find your problem.

Thank you, Thank you and my HUSBAND THANKS YOU!
I found the box for the disable web bugs in my firewall
checked and I unchecked it and viola!!! the boxes with red x's are gone.
Go into your Firewall and go to the Help section and type in "web bug" and follow the instructions to allow Web Bugs.
It works!
Thanks and thanks to CNET!
i use norton 2007 internet security .when you go into the firewall help and type web bug(s)you get not found.guess norton dose not use such simple terms.looked for anything that resembled this and found nothing.i guess it is hidden under it's huge foot print.still get a few red x's.
I am having the same problem, please tell me how you fixed yours...
mrsscarlett43@charter.net
thank you Scarlett
using windows XP
Downloading the Security Update won't help the Red X's. I have them too after the update.
I use zone alarm. I dont see this web bug feature. On my dell pc that I bought in 2000 (works perfect), I have no red x problem. On my sony vaio that I bought in 2002, always have red x's. Same settings, same firewall, no spyware....I don't get it.
ZoneAlarm does indeed allow you to disable the webbugs. It also allows you to disable or enable several other things associated with email and IM.
I used ZoneAlarm for several years and I can assure you I am correct on this matter. However, if you have used ZoneAlarm and you have not seen these features you do not know how to use your security software.
I will not tell you where these features are located. You will have to find them for yourself. You should read the tutorial for your software if you wish to know how to correctly use it. Common sense.
Have a nice day.
