Turned computer off. took out battery. the same. I did see a message 1 out of the 3 times. it gave two options of what could be wrong a corrupt profile or....(it was too fast to read the whole paragraph).
Can someone help?
Here's what I do next. I log in and create a new account. Log into the new account (please don't question me, ask Microsoft!) and then read how to copy your files over using Microsoft's article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151
If you get an access denied message just google "XP TAKE OWNERSHIP".
I expect you to get your files back and ask Microsoft why they never issued a profile repair tool.
Finally, no. I don't know why this happens.

May the Good Lord bless you extra,
Andrea
