is it possible that my hardware is the problem?
Hardware problem can cause a slow shutdown. Mind telling what you did to what?
a TRS-80 running DOS?
Hint, hint.
Or rather, without a detailed sharing of the install plan on (what) hardware such as you read at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7587_102-0.html?forumID=69&threadID=271360&messageID=2699006#2699006 who's to say you got all the drivers?
Also you can read http://forums.cnet.com/5208-10149_102-0.html?forumID=7&threadID=305686&messageID=2839789&tag=forums06;forum-threads to see some reasons.
Bob
You didn't mention why you had to reformat your hard drive, but I'm going to assume it was bad. It's been my experience that hard drives that fail once (ie. become corrupted and require reformatting) frequently fail soon thereafter. Every hard drive will fail. They tell you all kinds of stories about the life of a drive, but don't expect more then 3-5 years. Always keep data backed up.
