I was having virus trouble and so I read to start up in safe mode. Well my safe mode wasn't allowing my computer to start up in that mode. It would scroll through a list and freeze there. So I seen an option in the control panel saying change it to start up in safe mode so I changed it to that and tried to start up again. Well it still does that same thing in safe mode and safe mode with networking. But now it won't load in normal or the option of starting with last good start up or whatever it says. It will go to the windows xp logo with the black back ground window and just freezes there. Now what do i do? ![]()
You've got few options..
1. Continue attempting to start in Safe Mode.. If it ever gets there, then disable the Safe Boot option in the System Configuration Utility (msconfig).
2. Run a "repair" install with your Windows XP disc or if the repair install doesn't fix the issue, you'll need to do a full destructive install.
Hope this helps.

Still no luck with getting it to log in. I found the reinstall disk and some others. I dont know how to get them to run though if I can't get past that window? Thanks!
Simply place the disc in the DVD/CD drive, then restart the computer. It boots BEFORE Windows loads.. It should boot upon startup and give you options to recover the computer..
Hope this helps.

If you have a restore disk, use it. One of the ways to prevent loss is to keep these updated constantly. You can create a set of disks and then reset the restore point to before the disks were created. After such, make a new set of disks every time you update hardware, keeping the original backup set if anything goes wrong. Some Desktops will have a system restore option during boot such as F10. This is the emergency partition that you can use if necessary.
Before I switched to Linux, I had used this setup more than once.
