My WinXP SP2 OS often popup a message says: 'Internet Explorer encounter an error, it needs to close', what's it going? Why? Help, thanks!
More about your hardware and software would help. Which version of IE? What sort of pest control are you doing. Do you have an alternate browser you can try? You might start by cleaning out your browser cache and setting it to delete such when closing the program. You could be low on memory. You might look in the event log for clues when this happens. They can offer an arcane reason for this that's understood by a few gurus.
First I don't use IE much but to fix this I usually find it's a BHO (see google to learn what a BHO is.) Then I'll remove those and retest.
Second, try to use Firefox or other browsers to avoid the IE issues.

I agree, use FireFox instead. You can download it for free and it will automatically transfer all your favorites, etc.

Good luck,

This is a well-known bug that happens when you click on a web address, after MS forces a defective update onto your computer.
Just click the link that says "more info" which will lead you to a patch on the MS site. I recently installed this patch and the problem was completely solved.

I'd been using IE7 earlier in the day, then I uninstalled a couple of programs from my computer. IE7 quit working, it would immediately bring up the "IE encountered an error and must close" box. I tried to reinstall IE7 twice but that didn't fix it. I tried to reboot the computer and that didn't work. Then I ran Ccleaner registry cleaner and that fixed the problem.
Hi all,
I am wondering if the problem is not Internet Explorer IE but Windows Explorer. I have two systems, one desktop Dell 531s with XP and a Acer Laptop with XP. Both about the same time started having a screen "Windows Explorer has a problem and has to close" If I closed it the whole system crashed. If I left the warning window open, my system kept functioning. I did a search with SHELL and removed all the suspicious programs but the problem continued on the 531 so I reloaded XP and removed the problem. I could not figure the problem with the laptop and so I just left the warning window open so I could keep using my laptop. Lo and behold, after 2 months the warning disappeared from the laptop. Got me beat what was going on there. I was thinking that SP's for XP might be the problem. Any of you out there come across a similar problem?
Explorer can crash on a corrupt jpeg and the entire system can reboot. All this just by having a corrupt jpeg or even a bum address boot entry. It's a well known issue we wish Microsoft would address since 1995.

Hi,
Quick reply but the question, how to search for these error jpgs or addresses? I don't really want to reload XP to the laptop. For now it is ok but the threat of the problem is always there on the horizon.
Thanks
Jhampa
I use GYULA'S NAVIGATOR to move 1/2 the images out and retest with Explorer. I usually find the bad file in less than 5 tries.
