Will Windows XP SP3 include all the updates from SP2 and on?

by Jordan Skylar - 7/31/08 9:06 PM

I've briefly heard about SP3 for Windows XP. I'm now running Windows XP Media Center Edition and have SP2.

I admit that I haven't been faithful about downloading MS weekly updates. So, I wondered if SP3 included all of the MS updates released after SP2.

Thanks!

Yes.

In fact, I believe it includes all updates since SP1, since SP1 is the minimum requirement.
There have been a few updates since SP3 was released.
I've saved the full SP3 install package (about 300Mb) to make re-installing easier.
The size of the online install will vary depending on what it detects as needed.

I had heard here, that sp3 initially had some bugs. have they
been all resolved ?

I usually keep up with ms backups - the last sequential I did I tried
to uninstall but it wouldnt hahahaha missing some sort of files.
leave it to ms to make some changes that slow things down.

so... if sp3 is oky-doky then I will grab a copy.

It's "oky-doky" for me and ...

I recommend it. Grab it! Download the stand alone version and save it to disk for future needs should the operating system need to be installed again.

but then I just now remembered - sp3 probably has IE7 in it. I
already went that route and am sticking to IE6 - it was a pain
to physically remove all of IE7.
I have the IE7 upgrade marked ''dont show again'' so I dont get
it when I check for updates.

IE7 Is NOT Required For SP3

by Grif Thomas Moderator - 8/3/08 11:46 AM In reply to: yes - these do help by tedtks

It will update your current IE6 correctly and not install IE7..

Of course, if you happen to have IE7 installed, then it will update that correctly also.

Hope this helps.

sp3

by angler1 - 8/2/08 1:51 AM In reply to: Will Windows XP SP3 include all the updates from SP2 and on? by Jordan Skylar

i recently had a new computer built for me with all the software for gaming, but with sp3, which i didn't really want, there are some issues with it at moment, some software does not work on it. but it still does all the important updates you need. also i am having a lot of connection probs, the computer is saying it's connected-the modem is connected but explorer is saying "can't connect" have to keep switching off and restarting then it connects, wether this is sp3 or my sp i don't know, have had technical from sp on phone trying to sort it but to no avail, so my advice is to stick to sp2 for time being, maybe sp3 has a glich in it i don't no.

updates

by tedtks - 8/2/08 2:36 PM In reply to: sp3 by angler1

what browser r u useing - IE6 ?
I had similar probs after the last update ''to fix some
security problems'' and it also made some operational changes
like a little notice 'working on ur request' and some back button
issues when returning from doing outgoing mail - plus a biggy to
me - I cannot click on anything until all the pics and ads are loaded
or it just locks up and I have to do a refresh and wait. thats the
update I tried to uninstall - but I get file missing errors.
been thinking I may just run my last backup to hopefully get rid
of that last update. - - I think the programmers at ms must be
bored if they are makeing changes to IE6. LOL at least u would think
they would do it right. LOL LOL

by Jordan Skylar - 8/5/08 3:32 AM In reply to: updates by tedtks

I use IE 6. I never went to IE 7 because it seemed to have too many problems and I don't need any more work. LOL!

Keep hearing that SP3 is not worth installing

by Thomboy65 - 8/6/08 11:12 AM In reply to: Windows XP SP3 by geoffrey0710

After talking to several tech people working for DELL and Microsoft they both don't think installing SP3 will really make life that much better--with regard to one's PC.

In fact, the tech person for DELL in San Salvador who grew up in Los Angeles, and has been working with PCs for 15 years as a full-time tech advisor, advised me against the install, citing too many problems, most of which are discussed at the Microsoft site.

I didn't bother.

Best, Thomboy

If SP3 Is Like All Other Service Packs, Eventually....

by Grif Thomas Moderator - 8/6/08 11:50 AM In reply to: Keep hearing that SP3 is not worth installing by Thomboy65

...you'll be required to install it or you won't receive the newest Windows Updates.. Currently, if you don't have SP2 installed on XP, you can't receive any of the newer updates until you add it.. or SP3..

It's your choice.

Hope this helps.
