What hard drive do I need for my 2003 MAC G5?

by kronercnet - 10/1/08 10:27 AM

My hard drive on my MAC G5 just died and I need to replace it. The dead drive is 160 GB Seagate 7200.7 ... what other info do I need when shopping for a new one? I am on a G5 I bought in 2003.

Powermac G5 drives

The PM G5 is used SATA drives, room for two of them, and are very easy to replace. The connectors are attached to the case and the drive, once fitted with the rails from the old one, will just slide right in there.
Initialize, with the OS X installation disk, and stick yourself a version of OS on there.

Any full size, 3.5 inch, 7200 rpm, SATA drive will be suitable as a replacement for this machine.

Prices are reasonable so you should be able to replace that "small" 160GB drive with a 500GB for around $75 - $80 plus shipping.
However, you could also go to your local big box electronics store and buy one off the shelf. Cost a little more but you get it quicker.

As a starter, check out macsales.com for some ideas
