could this bottleneck performance?

by pepsidrinker67 - 9/24/09 10:09 PM

so on the hp pavilion dv6-1268nr, I have noticed that the reviews sometimes say that people are experiencing bottlenecks in speed and performance somewhere in the specs. it has AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-82(2.20GHz), 15.6" screen, 4GB Memory DDR2, SATA 320GB HDD 5400rpm, DVD Super Multi, and 1gb dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650. im thinking that since the CPU is slower that maybe it cant keep up with the potential output of the GPU. as its a dedicated 1gb card. but im not quite sure if this would really bottleneck, from the benchmarks of all the parts i've researched it doesnt seem as it would hit performance really that much if at all to notice a slowdown...could i be wrong? definately, but i hope not.

I am looking into this after realizing that its buying time for a laptop and the other model i posted a thread about is out of stock and wont be in stock for a while, but i need a laptop now. So with the amazing help i got last time im hoping to get this question solved.
i build desktops all the time but havent really been around the block on comparing where a bottleneck could occur, as i've never had problems finding compatible parts, but buying something prebuilt i need more than a few internet posted benchmarks to prove it. ;)

thanks in advance

I'm going with yes and no.

Yes it could. Games are demanding.

Also I'm going with no. My kid has a lesser machine and plays many games that I thought would not be playable.

-> Gamers are a finicky bunch. Many haven't learned that even with the latest hardware you'll still have lag and performance issues. Someday they'll figure that out.

that actually solved my question clearly

i mean i understand about the gamers thinking oh i have a quad core and 3gb of ram with a 9800gtx it can play games without lag, yeah sometimes, but sometimes it will not be smooth competely. i just wondered if i was going to see a decrease in maxium performance when i am multitasking, such as using GIMP (photoshop type program), burning a cd/dvd, and some other things like watching HD videos at the same time. just not sure about the hardware, as i have never had anything quite this new hardware wise lol.

but thanks for answering my question! :)

You're right.

But not long ago when you burned a CD you would not dare launch another program. Today, many don't think twice about it.

I have a simple dv6910us that runs fine at "multitasking." For me, no big issues.

thanks for the reply. maybe people who wrote the reviews just expected that "hey it costs 799 dollars it should run everything at once perfectly". im not that kind of person. i understand most hardware and everything such as what its capable of, just on this laptop i cant seem to figure out if the lower cache on the cpu is going to slow down my Gpu performance, but i dont think i have anything to worry about, as if i do game it will be slightly older games and im not really going to worry about maxing everything out, thats just cosmetic. Thanks so much.
