This is news to me

by stevephilipps - 2/12/09 2:48 PM

I know about windows vista and have become used to it already, but to hear that they are coming out with another new version is something new to me, and i would really wonder if it is going to be any better than vista

The general consensus is that it already is...

Just read through some of the posts here, in our Windows Vista forum, on Cnet News, and on Cnet's sister site ZDNet. From personal experience I will state that I agree with Steve Ballmer's comment is accurate: Windows 7 is Windows Vista done right.

So True

I wish now that I had not bought Vista upgrade, my computer never worked right, slow as a turtle. I am using Windows 7 beta, my computer works great, like having a new computer.

UGH!

by John.Wilkinson Moderator - 2/13/09 9:08 AM In reply to: Microsoft Insults Customers With Six Editions of Win 7 by Coryphaeus

I really wish more members of the media would not write articles with their blinders on.

1.) Windows XP came in 7 editions. Yet some members of the media complain about Windows Vista/Windows 7 having 6 editions. Selective memory.

2.) Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7 Home Basic editions aren't even available in North America. Yet some members of the media tell their North American audience about the horrors that somewhere in the world Microsoft gives poor nations a choice. Oh, the horror!

3.) Windows 7 Enterprise edition is only available enterprises. Consumers cannot find it in stores, online, etc. It doesn't exist to them. Yet some members of the media profess that what consumers will never see or even know about in many cases will confuse them. Huh?

The only insult is that perpetrated by those members of the media. There are three editions of Windows 7 their readers may choose from, each geared towards a different kind of audience. For those who do not like to be given the ability to choose what they like and do not like for themselves, there's always Apple.

I wonder

what would happen if Microsoft annouced that only one version of W7 would be available? the media screeming that customers had no choice but to take what was offered.
A no win situation.

what is the problem?

by doshie2007 - 2/13/09 6:31 PM In reply to: Microsoft Insults Customers With Six Editions of Win 7 by Coryphaeus

Really what is the problem, I think that it is great that there are choices to make concerning Windows version. There are how many versions of Vista, 4 there is always something to complain about. I really like trying new software. cannot wait until Windows 7 is released.

What's the problem?

by FrankQC - 2/17/09 7:38 AM In reply to: what is the problem? by doshie2007

Well. It annoys me that I tried to RDP to my computer and I wasn't able to because it's the "Home Premium" edition. Microsoft is doing a good job on making their customers purchase a brand new license for doing extra tasks.

And yes I know I could download and install a third party application but why would I do that when I have Windows (which is supposed to be communication based).

In my respective mind I believe there should only be two, at most three versions. Why not make only one version of the operating system and just install applications from a Virtual Marketplace. If you want BitLocker Drive Encryption just download it off of Microsoft's site, etc...

but hey that's just me. Some people will "love" the new flavors and versions.
