I bought a HP Pavillion dv2000 from Best Buy and it came with Windows Vista. What i want to do is uninstall Vista on this laptop and install Windows XP Pro. I already have the XP disc. Windows XP was never installed on my laptop before, so can someone help me with step-by-step guidelines on how to do so for this particular laptop. Thanks in advance.
For those who are wondering why i want to downgrade; i just find XP more reliable and easier to use.
See previous discussions, of which there have been many.
Basic story is do not pass go until having located XP drivers for all hardware. If those drivers do not exist, the whole idea is dead in the water.
Also, for whatever it may be worth, XP will not be any more reliable than Vista if you run it on some cheap POS system like HP/Compaq systems have a reputation for being. Same goes for Acer/Gateway/eMachines while I'm at it. You can polish a turd all you like (and yes, as the Mythbusters proved, it IS possible) but it's still a turd at the end of the day. If people just gave Vista a chance, they might find it's not as bad as it's cracked up to be. It's also nothing special, but I don't find it any more or less reliable than XP.
...see the link below and you'll want to read a number of the posts before jumping right in. Downgrading in such a manner is not for the faint at heart or the newbie..
