My vista explorer.exe shoot up 100% at all 4 cpu every 10 seconds. The time interval is constant. I tried to kill explorer the cpu usage will stop. But after running back explorer the problem happen again.
First question: What do you do for virus/spyware/malware prevention and cleanup?
It is a fresh installation Vista Ultimate. Installed PCTools firewall, AVast and Ad-Aware. It doesn't seems to be a virus.
It could still be malware, since if you're using Internet Explorer, there isn't a single safe site out there with the growing popularity of SQL Injection attacks on websites. Plus, Adaware alone will not even come close to catching everything, even if you have their passive scanner running from the paid version.
So have you tried scanning your system with 3-4 other malware removers to be sure that's not it? There are plenty of exploits for IE that require no real interaction from the user beyond just going to some website.
A real head scratcher for some is that if you have a desktop picture, Explorer can try to render that image and fail, then it keeps trying at some interval. This is an old bug that continues on in Vista. For now try no background picture along with the other advice.
Sounds like a looping process more then likely due to corruption. Chance of repairing it, 2%.
What does "task manager" say, Ctrl+Alt+Delete? What process is doing this, make sure.
What does "event viewer" say?
Any processes or software names popping up here?
If the program is something you've down loaded or installed with a disk then reinstall this software.
If it is "Windows Explorer" itself or maybe a "Service" then don't waste your time trying to fix it, make back ups and then re-install the OS.
You might try registry repair software however but this might create even more problems. Maybe worth a try if you have nothing to lose. Do back ups first.

Try ending the other unnecessary processes in windows task manager , even try disabling the antivirus for a while. This might help
I had to reformat mine, eventually, but go to www.trend micro.com and look for the newest version of housecall. It's free, and it's good. Worth a try. Gl
I think quite unlikely to be malware. Hopefully registry fix can solve the problem. Will also try the Trend micro. Guess my last solution would be reinstall.
