I got windows vista business edition, i have this problem each time i startup my laptop it runs verry good, i put the password and i login then everything loads and it freezes after that, at that time i can access all folders but i cant change the power options it puts the loading cursor of windows vista, i cant access network and sharing center or to connect to any network meanwhile the cpu meter shows no heavy process ... After 1 min or more everything loads back and runs normaly the cpu runs back and loads all the rest of the options.
I got windows vista business
- 4 GB RAM
- 300 HDD
- 2.4 Core 2 duo
- 1 GB VGA
(i read another post called "Vista slow Startup probelm" but i couldnt access it back.. they said we should try to remove "services" from the msconfig but i dont know if its correct...)
Read http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm
Also, that's a fairly new machine. Did it act that way when you got it?
yes when i first i got it i had many startup programs i thought it was from those programs that this happened. i entered the website but what am i exactly supposed to do , should i try to try to switch off the service from the services in msconfig??
NOTE: i updated all the updates available
Make this a warranty issue. If they delivered a dud, you can report it as such. Why should you, in this day and age of nice machines like the Apple have to become a guru?
u gotta point there but frankly i prefer fixing it by myself cuz well im in 'Lebanon' which means it would take ages to solve the problem and they might tell me to format the system from the beginning, i would rather fix it by my self i will gain time and knowledge ![]()
Go back to XP if speed is an issue. For now it's very much your choice on direction.
The supplied link should help you catch up with what services to keep or stop.
Bob
well in fact i got a PC running on win XP 1 GB RAM, 128 MB VGA , 3.0 CPU and at first the same thing happened and now it worked by it self.. no more slowdowns on startup i really dunno what is this weird problem but i will try to remove server from the msconfig and restart now
Hello,
You could also try some software to clean up your system, unused files, registry files ect. I've used Advanced Windows Care since XP. I now use it with Vista Ultimate and it helps to clean out the clutter as well as speed up the system. The software is also free.

Another thing you can try is to right click on your main harddrive. EG C:\ if C is your main drive or Local Disk. Then go to Properties -> Tools -> Error Checking -> Check Now and choose schedule check which will run next time you reboot your computer.
Here are some other links that may help;

thanks for your information i am looking into them right now i guess they are very usefull and i hope they help me out to figure out my problem, stay in touch if you can.
Almost all new computers have useless programs, and most of them have auto start-ups. Go through the programs you never use and uninstall them. Then the ones that remain check under "Tools" On the Menu, and see if there is Preferences or Check for updates automatically, if unnecessary uncheck and apply.
Their is also a program I use called (TUT)The Ultimate Troubleshooter...It is an excellent program to help you tweak your system. And it so user friendly. It helps you delete uless startups, and uninstalled service startups, and generally assitsts on make your system sing.
Also I hope you aren't using Windows Sidebar..that will slow you down to a turtle's pace until it loads. Hope that this helps you.
Lately after innumerable Vista Updates, the computer launches pretty fast, and then when it is finally up and stable, my Firefox will launch in about 10 seconds, Thunderbird in about 4 seconds, and MS Word and Excel in about 2 to 3 seconds. All in all, as of March 7, 2008, things are working smoothly and quickly. I also have completely disabled the dreaded UAC, since it is a real PIA. My Vista runs similarly to my previous version of XP Professional on a different computer. The Vista Computer has an Intel Quad Q6600 processor with 4 gig of ram. I also use diskeeper 2008 which continually defrags in the background.
I am not a Microsoft Shill, but I really like Vista at the moment. 6 months ago, it was a different story, but they have made a lot of updates that seems to have improved things.
1) Start> in search box type msconfig> then click the boot tab> now click the boot log box> click apply then OK then restart the system.
2) Don't disable any services, this can be risky, delay them. I have these delayed on my Vista Business OS. Windows Search and Windows Update. Just right click on these in services and choose delay. These two important services will still function only be delayed to allow your PC to get running first.
3) After starting your computer the first screen to appear is the BIOs screen at this screen load your Operating System installation disk. Once it loads a language choices screen will appear, make a choice, then a scan will run then on the next screen choose "Startup repair", click it and restart the system. This option does not appear on some computers nor does this option appear if the OS disk is installed after you log on. It must be loaded at the BIOs screen. If you do not have a copy of the installation disk these can be obtained for a low cost from most PC manufactures.
Disable all unnecessary startup programs as has been suggested.
Other:
There's a chance that you might be experiencing registry problems. Down load registry repair software from this location:
http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?qt=registry+repair&tag=srch&tg=dl-20
Some items here are for free some are for pay. Choose one that backups your registry prior to making any repairs. There are some risks associated with these products. Use these at your own risk.
If your still having problems try this long shot. On the BIOs screen press and hold F8, on the next screen choose "debugging mode'. Once your logged on and everything has loaded then restart your computer. Your PC will run slower then normal in this mode so be patient while preforming the debugging. Again, this is a last resort option.
You know a one minute load is really pretty good. This might help those with a real problem like a 5-15 minute start up. Patience a problem? ![]()
That's all I have. This thread is untracked.
In reply to Dango and the above threads, here is another option I forgot about.
Go to your Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> (On left Bar) Turn Windows features on or off..

You can then diable programs from starting that you do not need. I have Vista Ultimate, I found it odd that Telnet client and server were both enabled as well as a few other programs.
Since I game a lot, I probably have a lot more apps disabled than most. There are other programs that help speed up the system such as TweakVI which I also use for Processor Caching for the added boost on my benchmark scores.
Also, there are literally thousands of vista tweaks it seems. You can look over a gazillion of them here.

And as a test, log out before you shut down.
because of this slugish perfomence in vista,i change it 2 XP.
