Using External Hard Drive For MP3's
by moranacus - 11/2/09 5:04 PMI found a program that I really like called PlayPad Audio Player.
I want to use an external hard drive to run this program and to store
all my MP3's on it. Is there going to be a problem doing this????
I hate portable MP3 players and have no interest in getting and IPOD either.
Just one issue.

We read daily about people that "store" their files on external drives. The drive is dropped, malfunctions and they learn why we don't call these STORAGE. Let's say you lost that drive. Would you lose your collection?

I wanted to use an external drive because I have so many music CDS that I only like a few songs on and so I wanted to make them MP3's and save them.
Do you know something better to use????
What about the small flash drives????
Would that work out for just storing the songs????

There's no problem using external drives as storage, as long as you also have backups.
So storing your mp3s on an external disk is fine. I am not so sure about installing software on it. Is there any reason why you cannot install the PlayPad Audio Player onto your C drive, and then just use it from there to play the mp3s off the external, and even create playlists as you wish?
I see nothing from the PlayPad Audio Player web site that says it would not be able to access an external drive, but you can try it and see.

What's the best way to backup my files????
I also have lots and lots of music CD'S that I only like
a few songs on and I plan to rip those to MP3's so I can
get rid of the CD'S.
It's a shame that the BOSE WAVE SYSTEM can play MP3 CD's but
if you have 150 songs on the CD you can't go directly to song 75.
You have to keep pushing the button over and over to get to that song.

Personally I wouldn't get rid of those Music CDs. They are a backup anyway, and they can always be used in a PC, even if you no longer have a dedicated CD Player.
In 20-30 years time they may even be worth something. Just think of it, "Original CDs", and you can amaze your children with them!
The best way to backup? Onto a CD/DVD, 
Also, more than once. Why? If you have just one back up and the original file gets lost, then that backup becomes the original; that is, you no longer have a back up.

It's greatly appreciated.
BOSE is suppose to have a wireless device that you hook to
your computer so you can play the music files on your computer
on the Bose Wave Machine.
I contacted the Bose but they are having problems with it.
