There might be something to Molly's Magnetic Field!

by guy_dudeman - 2/23/08 10:43 AM

Check out this kid, who has the same problem, kinda:

Well

I always thought the field was an evolutionary way to protect the Cylon baby in the development phase.

who knows

It could be a mental thing honestly..

Maybe he is playing a prank.

by RTourn - 2/24/08 11:21 PM In reply to: There might be something to Molly's Magnetic Field! by guy_dudeman

He benefits from his title, as Magneto Boy. The teacher is impressed. He gets a Cool name. Bullies may be scared of him. He gets lots of love from nerd girls who may find him hot, because we know some girls just loves the bad guy.

On a serious note.
There are only two types of fields he can possibly produce: magnetic field and electric field. We can reproduce both at intensities far greater than that produced by any known living thing using ordinary science lab stuff. If those intensities cannot make the keyboard type crazy stuff then the boy cannot be the source.

Yeah, but I'm not pranking!

I am filled with rage! I joke about it, but I definitely have a far greater failure rate with electronics than those who surround me. I suppose it could be self-fulfilling at some point, though ... maybe I'm more prone to furious response when things DO break, and therefore more attuned to breakages that are considered commonplace by my peers?

Nah. It's a field. Even Tom thinks so.

I left a message on the voice mail about this but I doubt it will get played. You said eariler that you did not have this problem till you met your husband. I don't buy Tom's technology vampire thing but perhaps close contact with your loved one could be generating static electricity. However I discarded that theory at first because the baby has not left for college and children are well known insulators for close contact betweeen parents till they leave home. But then I thought, if you walk the baby a lot then you could be building ups a huge static charge with the baby. Try grounding yourself before you come into work every day.

Just a thought

It's not just you

I have an aunt that kills watch batteries. They die about a month after she replaces them. Supposedly, her father had the same issue.

If I hadn't seen it myself, I wouldn't believe it.

by punterjoe - 3/1/08 7:00 AM In reply to: It's not just you by Aeirlys

I don't expect you to believe it either, but I had a coworker who could put on a mechanical watch and it would start running backward! I have no explanation or crackpot theory, but I saw what I saw, so I have no doubt that SOMETHING is happening around Molly. I've seen it in a few people and think of it as a chaos field.
Far more common are human capacitors. I'm one myself. I routinely throw sparks about 4-6 inches when I go to unlock my car door. I have shut down rooms full of high tech devices merely by walking through the door and passing too close to a metallic part - the loud "snap" always gives me away.
Someone somewhere must be researching, oh, let's call them Mollyfields. We need to get her into a study.

Nylon carpets or something?

Often drag your feet when walking?

Post 10 of 14

It might not be magnetic.

by RTourn - 2/25/08 9:54 PM In reply to: Yeah, but I'm not pranking! by mollywood CNET staff

I just find it hard to believe you have something that is yet to be classified by science. I guess it is possible, science is on going. I haven’t thought about this before; maybe, you disturb the probability field around you. Your presence may change the probability wave of electron causing it to move unpredictably. How do you feel about human research and particle accelerators?
:)

eh

I think your hypothesis is probably not true.

You are not alone...

by mountainfrog - 2/27/08 6:37 PM In reply to: Yeah, but I'm not pranking! by mollywood CNET staff

I am not as extreme as "magneto Boy" but I too seem to have a lot of weird things happen when I start touching electronic gadgets. I have a much higher failure rate of devices than does my husband. In the past year, two laptops and one digital camera have died. Not from abuse...just weird errors. Both laptops started having hard drive problems (unreadable sector errors) and my digital camera needed a power board replacement. Weird things happen when I use electronics, too. I will try to turn on the TV with the remote repeatedly and it wont turn on...my husband tries to turn it on and it works on the first try. My mouse will stop responding when I am using it..my husband comes over and the mouse works fine. Stuff like that happens frequently. Kinda strange..glad I am not alone.

I think I just have bad luck

by Nicholas Buenk - 2/28/08 5:10 AM In reply to: Yeah, but I'm not pranking! by mollywood CNET staff

Not so much that it breaks down but arrives with problems.... Too much of my electric stuff seems to be a lemon....

Post 14 of 14

you're not alone Molly

by ozyman4269 - 2/29/08 7:12 AM In reply to: Yeah, but I'm not pranking! by mollywood CNET staff

I know this girl form College who had the uncanny ability to fry Playstations! She had some how killed a few back home and 1 or 2 at college (just by holding the controller) so naturally we barred her from touching our PS2

I on the other hand have some sort of positive field. Usually a friend will ask me to look at their computer when it has been behaving strange and when I look at it all is well/fixed. Strange??
