I thought XP can only use 2 Gigs of RAM. Correct me if I am wrong. I know Vista can use 4 Gigs.
Actually XP can take 4GB of memory!
It all depends on the Motherboard.
The new Core 2 Duo may take more.
I have an Intel P35 MB and I have 4 GB running XP
and if you have more than one hard drive
you can have 4 GB (4095 MB)of virtual memory
on each drive for a total of 8 GB
Windows Xp 32 bit recognize only 2GB of Ram.
Windows Xp 64 bit recognize up to 4 GB of Ram.
hello, i have an intellistation m pro, with 4 gigs. i have windows xp 32 bit, and it recognises 3.5 gigs. where my other 512megs of rambus?
cody
That's a 32-bit memory allocation limitation and is, unfortunately, normal regardless of which operating system you're using.
Sorry.

Right click on "My computer" and choose "Properties"
Click on the "Advanced" Tab
On the "Peformance" pane click on "settings"
Click on the "advanced" Tab and on the "Virtual Memory" Pane click on "Change"
From there you can Increase your Virtual Memory and then restart your Laptop
You can remove programs which are using too much of your Ram. Or better Buy High Capacity preferably 1GB.
Simple, Just get more memory , as much as you can , Problem solved, and your machine will be much faster.\

Hi Dear,
Virtual Memory is actually combination of main memory (RAM) and some area in secondary storage (Hard Disk).
For problem like 'Windows Virtual Memory is too low' means the area in Secondary Storage is not enough for programs that are in execution state.
To get rid of this
Right Click the Computer & then Properties.
Now Click Advanced Tab in Properties Window,
Now Click Setting button in Performance Section,
Now Click Advanced tab in Performance Option Window,
Now Click Change button in Virtual Memory Section,
You can see options like Custom Size & System Managed Size,
Check Custom Size & Define range i.e. Initial Size & Maximum Size,
Or Check System Managed Size which is most suitable b/c it is maintained dynamically by Operating System.
Note: You have to define enough range so that a number of programs that you usually run, can be run in execution state easily & quickly.
If the problem is not vanished then you have to go for higher size RAM

incearca sa maresti memoria virtuala de la DDR
Control Panel/System/Advance/Performance/Setings/Advance/Virtual Memorii.

I know NOTHING about computers, short of being able to turn on my own, but I have many IT friends. When I encountered that little box several months ago and went to one of my friends, she said simply that "You have too many rich text pages open simultaneously and your laptop is creating more "virtual space" to allow you to navigate through them faster."
Sounded good to me! So, I have been keeping the amount of windows with rich text open to a minimum and it's seemed to stop that *pop* up window from coming along.
Go to Start/Control Panel. Here click on System. In System click on the ADVANCED tab. Then, in the new window, click on the ADVANCE tab again. Towards the lower part of this window under Virtual Memory is CHANGE. I have mine set at 1140 and never see the warning. Hope it solves your problem.
to that same question, i have had same popup, and i know computer memory has 87% available.also know others who have same thing. but i do not know any who have been able to tell why this is happening and what causes it
Denise,
I checked the internet with Yahoo!Search for "'Windows Virtual Memory is too low": it returned many results the best of which I believe is at the following address:

Good luck. I hope this resolves your problem.
Robin.
I had the same prob untill i realised that i had to many programmes running at the same time. So i suggest closing some programmes when u boot up, as this cured my prob, i am also running Windows XP home on a desk top with 288MB RAM,so try the above. GOOD LUCK hope this helps.
